It is said that quality is in the details and in the Kindle DX Graphite this can be seen clearly. The controls that are positioned on the left hand side are easy to discern. Just the slightest gap has been added with the controls set slightly lower than the main face, which gives what appears to be a distinct but slight permanent shadow line. The cube control has a similar permanent shadow line surrounding it and a slope towards the cube that ends in a deeper and wider shadow line. This accentuates the importance of this control unit to the Kindle DX Graphite. This is so simple and very effective.

Where to turn it on is given by a banner at the bottom of the screen with the simple statement: “Slide and release the power switch to wake”, which means that you will look for a slide switch first to start your Kindle DX Graphite. Above the snub cube is the Menu panel, which will give you a menu, when pressed and of course, if you want to close the menu then you press it a second time. The menu will advise you in descending order to: Turn Wireless on; Shop in Kindle Store; View Archived Items; Search; Create New Collection; Sync and Check Items; Settings and Experimental. These simple words make you realise the great design of your Kindle DX Graphite. To move the cursor up and down this list you will need to return back to that cute little snub cube and as they are in very close proximity to each other, it is really easy to go through the set of tasks. To activate the item that you need you just press the cube and it appears like a genie! If you make a mistake or decide that this is not what you really wanted to do, then you press home and everything returns as such to normal. Pressing the cube to rectify your first action will not work! It merely takes you on to another level. Such as, if you want to shop in the Kindle Store with you Kindle DX Graphite then press the cube and a box will appear, which asks the question: Turn Wireless On? Below in smaller print you will see the following: “Your Kindle wireless is turned off. Do you want to turn wireless on?” and below this you will see two smaller boxes with the query: cancel or ok. Depending on which you want, you should move the darkened background with a sideways movement of the cube to either the left or the right and then once again using the cube on your Kindle DX Graphite press the cancel box to return to the start page or press the ok box. If you press the ok box then at the top of the screen you will see the words: “Wireless Connecting” at the top of the screen with a turning circle that indicates that the order is being processed.
