Asus Eee Slate EP121 VS. iPad 2 : are they compatible?

Apple iPad 2 :

- It is suitable for an endless array of application to satisfy most consumer needs, especially  entertainment features, photo apps, video and games route apps. Basically iPad escels at entertainment.

- It is low maintenance (It is a one of many reasons why some change their platform from PC to Apple Mac OS).

- The battery life is still for 10 hours for iPad2 and it gives you longer than Eee Slate.

Asus Eee Slate :

- It can function with many platforms as a actual computer (like a laptop in tablet’s body). It is actually design to do a lot of things but excels at productivities

- It is compatible with a chance to upgrade to Window 8.

- Although Eee Slate has 2.0 webcam front-and rear video camera but some say that it is hard to use and to point at what you want to take a photo if you use it as a laptop.

-It supports a digitizer pen (to take note and draw sketches)and proper software as they are included in the box. Unlike iPad2, you have to buy it from other company

- In terms of usefulness, Eee slate can do all entertainment like iPad 2 does, ei Facebook, Video, play flash games and much more.

- Bluetooth keyboard is included . It is obvious that you get keyboard for laptop uses.

- A big disadvantage for Eee slate is battery life : it is only up to 3 hours (I think it is not enough for using as a tablet)

-Another disadvantage is its weight 2.53 lbs two times heavier than iPad 2 only  1.33 lbs.

In conclude, iPad 2 is as a lastest and the best tablet so far, offering you more entertainment but if you want to do a serious office work then Asus Eee Slate is better as it is both tablet and laptop.

Asus ep121 is just the start, there are more and more to come

To me, in terms of portable tablet,  the Asus eee ep121 is the disappointed. But perhaps I get it wrong. The Asus ep 121 is not only Asus tablet, there are more and more to launch this year : Asus Eee Pad MeMo, Asus Eee Pad Transformer and, Asus Eee Slate, and Asus EeePad Slider. Based on Engadget, I think the Asus tablet model that is closet to our interest (to use as ebook reader, multimedia reader device and creative gadget) is Asus Eee Pad MeMo – the 7 inch Android 3.0 touchscreen tablet with stylus and 500 USD price set. Is there anything new ? Or could this Asus tablet will change the way we use tablet ? Based on current data, there is nothing new about this tablet – just the Android tablet with the stylus. But we have to wait until June to find out if this negative impression true or not. (Photo from Engadget).

2011 : The Year of Tablets, Which one you want to buy?

Perhaps, you are looking for a tablet for this year, and you want to know what is on the tablet market at the moment and in upcoming month. Here, I list it for you and it may help you to choose something else except iPad. Most of new tablets or coming tablets are Android (from Google) and Windows (Microsoft) operations. These two operations offer several features that iPad could not do.

Google’s Android Platform.

1.  Motorola Xoom : A 10.1 tablet based on”Honeycomb” (version 3.0)Android Platform. Its screen size is the same as Asus Eee Slate EP 121, just released on Amazon website (You can pre order now) The features have a 5-megapixel camera with 720p Video recording, and a 2-megapixel webcam. The new feature that iPad does not have is such as multi-taking and browsing, and Adobe Flash.

2. Dell Streak 7 : Based on 1.6 Android operation, Dell is a bit out of date. It offers a 5 inch tablet but later on it updated to 2.2 Android with 7 inch screen offering 4GB.

3. Asus Memo : A smaller model 7 inch tablet, running on Android 3.0. Offering 2 sides cameras and can play HD Video. The model is expecting to launch June.

Window 7 Platform

4. Samsung TX100 : A10.1 tablet, like Xoom, this new tablet is the second model after Samsung Galaxy Tab. A good point ipad does not have is a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. This model had better resolution 1366×768 than Xoom which has 1280×800.

5. Asus Eee Slate Ep121 : A 12.2 tablet, the biggest tablet now, offers 32GB and 68GB built-in Storage. 1280×800 resolution.

6. Panasonic Viera Tablet : A companion tablet to Panasonic’s new Viera connect TVs. It serve as a second screen which can be use as a remote control to let people browse content related to what they  are watching on TV. Viera Tablet can be used when you want to continue watching TV outside of your home. (Good thought with a different features.)

7. Lenovo IdeaPad U1 : Expecting to launch in June/july, the U1 is a detachable 11.6-inch screen. It is like tablet combined with laptop with a more touch-friendly interface (compromise point that makes this model different). It could be cost around $1000.

8. Toshiba Tablet : A10.1 inch screen, running Android 3.0 offering built-in Wi-Fi but not 3G, 2 sides camera. The price is started from $US499. (This might be another rival of iPad)

TV based Platform

10. LG tablet and Glasses-Free portable 3D TV : LG 8.9 inch tablet running on Android 3.0. It has not yet unveiled about its details. But some we know about it is that it has a mobile DTV unit supporting 3D without the need of glasses.

Other or unknown platforms

11. Sharp Galapagos : Two models 5.5″ and 10.8″, this model will hit the Us in second half of this year and both models willl connect to the Galapagos e-book store. These may not be in the same group of tablets but it will definitely be a big impact on Amazon Kindle and Barns and Noble Nook.

2010, the year of ebook readers

What happened in the passing 2010 year ? Today we will reviewing all year long events in the ebook reader market :The year of ebook reader, starts from the released of Kindle 3 – the cheapest, lightest, longest battery and the most depth e-ink screen ebook reader at that time and Kindle DX Graphite code name ” Shasta” – the new Kindle DX family with the cheaper price and lighter weight. brings the ebook price war between Sony (Sony touch daily edition). Sony decided to dropped their Sony e-reader price to almost half price to make their ebook reader competed Kindle.

At the same time – the new format of computer released Apple tablet “IPad”. At first it seems like all of the media tended to hated it with the “Nothing more than the bigger IPod touch” But after a while with the new interesting video demonstration “Wired magazine on IPad video”. IPad became more interest choice for ebook reader marker. The IPad vs native ebook reader – Kindle or Nook raised the new interesting questions to the ebook market. Could we use IPad as ebook reader and why we have to do that ? The released of IPad drive Amazon to released their Kindle application to allow Kindle reader or who is to be the next Kindle reader in the future to read their Kindle e-book on several platform. You can read Kindle on IPod touch 4G, Blackberry, android, and also on your computer Mac and PC.

This Kindle vs IPad war run for a while. There was a rumor about the released of many IPad killers but nothing happened. There were some interesting ebook reader models released such as hybrid ebook reader and tablet – entourage edge, the Achros 9 but not yet brought the new excitement to the market. Also the cancellation of Microsoft Courier (my dream tablet !) made the ebook reader has divided into only two side IPad or e-ink reader. Until the released of Android tablet. At first it seemed like Android tablet was the cheap low quality tablet for the low budget price tablet market. But after a while the released of Viewsonic ViewPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Toshiba libretto, and many more of the quality showed that finally IPad has its competitor. especially for Samsung Galaxy Tab.

What to expect next year ?

If the year 2010 was the year for the war between native ebook reader (Kindle, Nook, Sony, and many more) and tablet (IPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Android tablet). The coming 2011 will the year of choices. There are many more to come especially dual screen tablet like its ancestor : Toshiba libretto. and Do you still  remember Asus duo panel ? CrunchPad ? and also the upgrade version of existing  tablet : IPad 2 with the camera and retina screen ?, also a new upgrade of Kindle 4 – Will Kindle goes color ? and don’t forget the eee pad 101 is very close to its release date ! and how about Blackberry playbook ?

Engadget has reviewed this Asus Eee Pad EP121 and the result is not so impressive maybe because it just the Asus Eee Pad EP121′s prototype. ” The 10-inch of Asus EP101TC and 12-inch EP121 are incredibly well built … the EP121 wasn’t booting at all, but it was being shown off with a super sleek keyboard docking station, which will be used to turn the tablet into an ultraportable laptop of sorts. An NVIDIATegra-powered EP101TC was powering on, but its Windows Embedded Compact 7-based interface was still noticeably buggy, and the touchscreen quite unresponsive.
