New IPod touch as ebook reader, Is it possible ?

Due to the released of new Apple IPod Touch, Do you think we can use it as ebook reader ? Yes, possible ! There are major two e-reading apps for you to choose the first one is Kindle from Amazon and another one is iBooks from Apple. I’ve been use Kindle for around 5-6 months with my 2nd generation Ipod touch. I think it’s readable.The application is great I think it’s better than iBooks with touchscreen highlighted, dictionary and touchscreen page turn.

I used it in my bed before I sleep but the problem is like everyone said, the color reading screen can cause your eyes strain and you can not use it for outdoor reading. If you ask me how’s reading on 3.5 inch reading, Is it too small ? I think it’s ok. IPod touch will divided ebook into hundred or thousand of small pages which is make me very calm just read your it without worry about when you are gonna finish it. It’s been a while since I have collected Kindle information, starts from Kindle 2, Kindle 2 global wireless, Kindle DX global wireless, new graphite DX and Kindle 3. Here is my thought about one of the most popular ebook reader which I believe maybe my posting could help a new comer or anyone who is going to buy Kindle to make up their mind.

1. Who want to use Kindle ?

Anyone who loves to read and looking for a new format of book, magazine, fiction, none fiction, and also textbook. Especially for gadget lover, traveller and space saver. Right now Kindle also available internationally, almost all of country in the world. You can check your Kindle’s country by click the link above.

2. Why you want to buy Kindle ?

I think one of a major reason to buy Kindle is that :

2.1 You are living in the limited space such as in dormitory or in condominium and you don’t wanna loose your space to book storage (I think this is one of the problem that book lovers always has).

Another good reason about owning Kindle is that :

2.2 You would like to collect your book and categorize it in order that you like (Similar to one good library, perhaps). I think Kindle could help you to categorized your books in the order that you like and also a very convenient book storage. you won’t loose your book collection anymore

2.3 You can also bring all of your entire e-book library with you (Consider it as IPod classic that you can bring all of your music collection with you all the time).

2.4 Cheaper price for e-book compared with the real book most of Kindle ebook is cheaper than the printed book. At least around 5 % to more than 50 % and I think Amazon’s online ebook buying system is one of the best that is available right now. And with the free 3G global wireless feature from the latest generation of Kindle, There is no boundary about book buying anymore. You can buy ebook, e-newspaper and e-magazine anytime you’re feel like to read something fresh and new.

2.5 You want to save the tree I know for one kindle reader maybe it’s not much for tree saver but If ebook reader become a must have gadget to anyone, who know maybe we can postpone global warm maybe for a few years.

3. The reason why you will not buy Kindle:

3.1 It’s pricey – Even with the latest Kindle 3 WiFi only’s new price, It’s cost is around 140 USD.  With the new price of Kindle DX graphite 9.7 inch, the price is around 380 USD. Some said that they will not spend that much on books in their entire life ! But If you ask me, I think for the book lover, book buying is inevitable. I think Kindle is not book itself, it is a book storage. Pay for this just once in your life for a book storage space about 3,500 – 4,000 books. I don’t think it’s not that expensive.

3.2 It’s not as charm as real printed book – I have to admitted that reading from real printed magazine or book is no compatible. We had experienced it since we started to learn to read. But Reading from Kindle is not that bad. Its e-ink reading screen is quite nice. but you can not actually turn the page like real one ;])

3.3 There is no touchscreen in Kindle - If you have been used IPad, Iphone or IPod touch, you will found that the touch screen technology is very convenience and very natural. Kindle app on IPad, IPhone, IPod touch is so very awesome ! I don’t know why the newest model – Kindle 3 is not comes with touchscreen feature maybe because of the marketing reason. (If you are really into touchscreen ebook reader, I think Sony ebook reader is definitely your choice.)

3.4 It’s black and white – Yes it’s only served in B&W no color ! Amazon has claims that e-ink screen is way better for your eyes, caused no eyes strain. But with some articles and some picture, perhaps we will need it in color. If you are looking for color ebook reader, there are several interesting choice such as IPad or Google tablet ebook reader which is very cheap that you can check out.

4. Which Kindle is best for you ?

Right now there are 3 models available – Kindle 3 with 3G global wireless + WiFi, Kindle 3 WiFi only no 3G and Kindle DX graphite.

With the 6 inch reading screen, I think Kindle 3 is perfect for anyone who is looking for very light, small ebook reader. Perhaps you might like to leave your Kindle in you bag or your briefcase all the time and use it while you have to wait for something. Compared with Graphite DX, It has a longer battery life, WiFi and 3G (DX has only 3G), lighter, smaller (6 inch compared to 9.7 inch).

One thing that I don’t like about Kindle 3 is I think it’s too small (maybe because I already have an IPod touch with Kindle app). If you are a casual reader – no heavy image display needed such for magazine, newspaper, graphic novel, graphical text book. You will love it !

Graphite Kindle DX – I think Graphite Kindle DX is the best way to read ebook reader and e-magazine. Also with a bigger reading screen perhaps Kindle DX graphite can give you more pressure ebook reading experience.

This is bad thing about it : no WiFi the only way to download your ebook is by using 3G global wireless or with EDGE technology if there is no 3G service available in your area. I don’t know how much we can count on EDGE technology. and wonder why Amazon didn’t offered it with DX.

Perhaps it’s too big for casual reading, I don’t quite sure you can read your DX in bed with one had holding or not maybe it’s too heavy.

Kindle on IPhone or IPad is very good

Have you try iBooks on IPad ? I have try it on my IPod Touch and it’s sucks ! Maybe my Ipod touch is old (8GB  around 2 years old now) so its response is very slow ! Con not compared with Kindle on IPod Touch and Iphone 4.0. This Kindle app on IPod touch and Iphone is very good. with very quick response for page turning, built in dictionary – just tab on world and the word’s definition will appears below on the same page very great ! This make me think about my Kindle 3 3G WiFI pre-order, Do I really need it ?

If you wanna read e-magazine, the only choice is Kindle

You may use Kindle on several platforms with IPad, IPod touch, PC, MAC, on your mobile phone but one thing that you cannot do is read magazines, newspaper and blogs from Kindle app ! it is served on Kindle only ! I kind of wondering why … with the Kindle you can read by choosing among hugh numbers of Kindle newspaper and magazine (with free 14 days trial). Maybe this is one of Kindle killer feature !

I’ve just check ebook readers’s price on Amazon and I think right now the Kindle 3 WiFi is the most valuable ebook reader in the market. If you compare Kindle 3 WiFi with Sony you will found that Kindle 3 is cheaper than almost models ! Actually there is the cheaper model of ebook reader like Ectaco Jbl-en Jetbook-lite Ereader and Kobo ebook reader but with the almost the same price, I think Kindle 3 is much better choice. The only model that I think maybe it can beats Kindle 3 is Sony e-reader pocket edition which is 3 USD cheaper than Kindle. But it is 5 inch reading screen and 512 MB built in memory.

I have thinking about this for a while, How could we make sure that Kindle 3 3G or WiFi is not too small to read and Graphite Kindle DX is not too big and too heavy ! I has read Kindle from my IPod touch which has 3,5 inch screen size for a while If I order Kindle 3 3G global wireless it means that the Kindle 3 size is just twice an IPod touch which I think it’s too small. But If I cancel my order and buy Graphite Kindle DX I kind of afraid it’ll be too heavy with 0.5 kilogram. What do you think ? Could any who already own Kindle 2 and Graphite DX help me with this ? I heard that DX is for textbook reading not for carry around, what do you think ?
