How to convert PDF files to Kindle formats?……Hmmm..Good question. My friends at work asked me how to do it because he plans to buy an Amazon Kindle. He told me that I have been thinking to buy an eBook reader and window shopping for a while. After comparing Pros and Cons of all available eReader in Sydney market (He live in Sydney, Australia), I decided to go for Amazon Kindle 3 as he keeps saying to be that Kindle 3 is better than Kobo and Sony which is more expensive.

After having talking all about Kindle and I showed him its capabilities, especially for reading, I asked me a question which I had been asked myself when I got Kindle 3 in the beginning. He asked ” How can I convert PDF files to Kindle formats?  AHA!! I wasn’t sure how to answer an effective way because I haven’t done it but I know that it can read PDF although it isn’t convenient and have never used Kindle for reading PDF format.

So a better way to reader PDF files comfortably is to convert it to one of many Kindle formats. So to help my friend to answer to question as I am Kindle users. I have to find a way to do it. And here it is.

1. First of all, Kindle readable formats are .AZW, .AZW1. Text (.TXT), Unprotected Mobipocket (.MOBI, .PRC)

2. You have to set up Kindle Conversion Service;  Go to Manage Your Kindle and Sign-in for your Amazon account, Then Click on “Edit Info” to change whatever email you want your files to delivery, Then save it.

3. Send your PDF file to your@Kindle.com address by type “Convert” in the subject of email. There are 2 options for delivering document :

Paid Delivery- if you choose this option, scroll down to the section labeled “Your Kindle Approved E-mail List” and your document will delivery to your Kindle wireless via Whispernet. The cost of this delivery is 15 cents per MB in the US and 99 cent per MS for outside. Normally, a typical eBook ranges from 1/3 to 3/4 of  1 MB. I found it this way is fast and delivery to your Kindle.

Free Delivery- If you don’t want to be charged, you can avoid using wireless service “Whispernet”.  What you do is to send attachments to yourname@free.kindle.com to be converted. Example if your Kindle email address is Yoon@Kindle.com, you send your attachments to Yoon@free.kindle.com. Then you can have your converted attachment emailed to your computer and you can transfer it to your Kindle.

There are immense of tablets release this year. With so many choices, If you are planing to get the one of the ebook reader, it is a bit tough decision. Which one you should get tablet or color ebook reader ? There are a few question you have to answer before purchase the tablet or color ebook reader.

How much will you spend for ebook reader : I think one major reason to look for the color ebook reader is its price, most of color ebook readers has been placed to fill the gap between brand name ebook reader and brand name tablet, to be the budget ebook reader in the ebook war. If you are looking for the budget ebook reader, I still believe the best way for money well spend is to get the tablet. Because basically both tablet and color ebook reader are almost the same type of device. It has the big color screen, it’s battery life is not as good as native ebook reader, it can not be read outdoor, but it can read multimedia, e-magazine, movie, music, internet. So why bother pay for color ebook reader that not suitable for all of these ? So my suggestion is if you are looking for the budget color screen ebook reader, get the budget Android OS tablet !

The next question after you decided already to buy Kindle 3 for begining of this 2011, New Year, is of which models of Kindle. Ok, We will consider about them both.

First, Their prices (if it is a big issues for your decision) Kindle 3 Wifi is priced at $139 (exclude shipping but it is not much if you live in U.S, but if you live outside, such as Australia is about $20). For Kindle 3 3G is priced $189. So it is $50 different while all features and other capacities are the same for both models.

Secondly,  The colour offers, Kindle 3 Wifi has only one colour, Black but Kindle 3 3G offers two colours, Black and White. (I personally like Kindle in White ).

Thirdly, It comes down to the difference of WiFi and 3G. Kindle 3 Wifi is compatible with a high-speed internet connection and wireless router set up. If you have already these internet connection at home, you do not need 3G connection. In other words, Kindle Wifi is a better option for using at home or office. On the other hand, Kindle 3G (including Wifi) has built-in free 3G connectivity and it is free of charge (Amazon pays for Kindles’ 3G wireless connectivity) This models is easier to use because 3G enables you to download books anytime, anywhere, while on the go. So Kindle 3G is a great option for travellers.  However, to make the best use of it you have to know your area has 3G coverage.
