Kindle DX Graphite reading light, which model you should buy ?

It’s quite sometime that I own Kindle DX Graphite and one of a problem that I’ve found is that it’s not so convenient when I cannot find a reading light nearby in a dark coffee house or reading in my bed before I’ll fall asleep. Unlike Kindle 3 accessories, There are few Kindle DX Graphite reading lights that available. So my perfect Kindle DX Graphite reading light hunting begins !

This is my criteria about Kindle DX Graphite reading light. 1. It has to be very light. It should not add to much weight to my KIndle DX Graphite. Because Kindle DX Graphite is already caused some weight already and I don’t want to have e-ink IPad in my carrying bag. 2. It has to be very bright ! (of course) 2. It has to be fitted with Kindle DX Graphite perfectly if it was advertised as only Kindle DX Graphite’s reading light. It’ll be perfect. There are not so many Kindle DX Graphite reading lights available on Amazon. You have two styles of Kindle DX Graphite reading light.

The first one is Kindle DX lighted cover (click here for full specifications) But based on its customer reviews. I don’t think it’ll work. the silicone doesn’t seems fitted with Kindle DX Graphite. Another choice is the actual reading light : I think my choice will be Verso Rechargeable Wrap Light for Kindle (Graphite) after reading its customer reviews. :

“This is a great light for any Kindle, and the best part is it’s rechargeable so you never need to replace batteries. [I love how convenient it is !] The Pros…It’s lightweight [that is what I've looking for] , and easy to attach to the Kindle with either of the 2 cuffs provided. The smaller “A” cuff is suggested for attaching directly to any Kindle. I have a leather cover, and actually used the larger “B” cuff so both the cover and Kindle fit inside the cuff snuggly. [ I don't have a cover and have  no plan to use it in the future so I think it's perfect for me.] The light can be unwrapped and positioned in whatever way is most comfortable for you. It lights up the screen brightly and evenly. I haven’t tested the 15 hour charge claim, but it does seems to last a long time. But when it comes to the ebook reader, I’ve found that Kindle DX Graphite is perfect for its task. I love to spend my weekends with my Kindle DX Graphite in the coffee place, with the limited connections make Kindle DX Graphite reading time is the very calm moment, no need to busy checking email or messy tweeting back to your friends. Just you and the very friendly e-ink screen ebook reader and that’s it. If you have the restless mind like me and cannot really let everything go on your weekend or on your vacation I think Kindle is one of the best way to help you to learn to concentrate and enjoy your time in the messy world.

Reading PDF magazine on Kindle DX Graphite and Kindle 3 , Is it possible ?

Today I have tried my experiment on reading PDF magazine on Kindle DX Graphite. and the result is ….. Yes, for the Kindle DX Graphite It’s readable maybe as not good as read from your notebook or IPad but it’s readable. For the Kindle, I don’t think it’s possible the screen is to small. If you would like to read PDF magazine on Kindle 3 you have to zoom in and pan so many times. I think it’s not convenience to do that (So it’s yes … technically you can read it but not recommend).

Let’s go back to Kindle DX Graphite. First of all, watch my Reading PDF magazine on Kindle DX Graphite below.

At first in the portrait  reading mode, you might think The picture is  look gorgeous on the screen and perhaps it’s not too bad to read color e-mangazine from the 16 shaded e-ink reader. That was what I’ve think too. and the page turning speed is very fast. no lacking or anything. Until I turned into the article page and I found that the text is not as crisp as I’ve expected and make it’s hard to read.

So I rotated it and tried to read in landscape mode. It’s better but still can not compare to the real e-magazine. (If you are really want to read PDF magazine from your Kindle DX Graphite. I think this is the way).

Especially compared with the Kindle e-magazine it’s a noticeable different about the quality. But the file that I’ve tried was the normal PDF color version which you can read with the PDF reader on your desktop or notebook computer. I don’t know If I’ve read the PDF that made for Kindle version is it make any difference. (And I also think the color of the PDF page layout effected my reading experience – If the magazine page comes in the Black and white base, I think it’s easier to read). So I think this is the reason why e-magazine on Kindle is designed for text based reading.

So, If you are interesting in Kindle DX Graphite and have a plan to use it as e-ink magazine reader. I must say it’s not that good. I’d like to suggest IPad, Samsung galaxy, Toshiba Libretto, many of Android tablets or 7 inch Pocket Edge. But If you are looking for the text base ebook reader, I still think Kindle is the best.

(PS. I took the photo from my IPod touch 4G so the real PDF on Kindle is much more crisp than this)

Good Christmas eBooks for Starting the Christmas Season on Your New Kindle.

Kindle DX for Him VS. Kindle 3 for Her : Which one is the better for PDF reader?

Are an apple and orange the same? Well, probably not. Whatever is good for her but maybe bad for him. Totally, it is hard to say. So it comes to the banal question “what do you like or what do you think is the best for you”  Well, deciding to buy Kindle is also a big deal you have to weigh PROS and CONS. And if your focus is to use PDF, supporting texts, illustration, table, diagrams, graphs and etc, here are the points that you have to consider.

Kindle 3 for Her: Pros and Cons and what you can not find in Kindle DX.

1. Kindle 3 has “Lookup Dictionary Definition” directly on the screen from the document you are reading.

2. Kindles 3 has “Aa” offering 5 options to adjust the contrast of texts, such as lighter or darker

3. Kindle 3 has features which you can add notes and highlight passages.

Kindle DX for Him : what he wants are different from hers.

1. With its large screen, it is better for reading since it is designed for handling PDFs. Screen display on Kindle DX is large and make readers more comfortable to scan and read through the whole document.

2. You could spend a few times for turning the pages since it can contain more texts in one page, unlike Kindle 3.

3. Getting more eye-friendly size when you rotate Kindle DX into a landscape more. Kindle Dx does not support the zooming as we know.

Kindle 3 is made to be smaller than Kindle DX. So it has more PDF’s features to provide more convenient, such as using in a train which is very crowned and not much space to stand. Its size is created to be able to put it in a lady handbag. It is as a pocket book. Not too big, not too small.  Kindle 3 with 6″ display screen is then the one for her.

Kindle Dx for him is obvious that a gentlemen tends to not have any in his hand. He needs to be flow in order to move fast. The PDF’s features in Kindle DX then have fewer than Kindle 3. That is because its size gives more advantages.

Anyway Him and Her can share Kindle Dx and Kindle 3 for PDF’s purposes. Experiences need to be exchanged sometimes.
